Joanna Koziej is a Polish visual artist working at the intersection of painting, ceramics, and graphic design. Her practice explores storytelling through symbols, rhythm, and intuitive gestures. Since 2017 she has developed Malarka (Paintress in Polish), a project that uses ceramic tiles as pictorial fragments - small odes to places, people, and fleeting experiences. Early iterations of the project took the form of subtle street-art interventions across European cities, echoing the poetic visual language of the Polish School of Posters.
Joanna Koziej holds a distinction from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. In 2024 she completed a residency at the Iznik Foundation in Turkey, where she developed her pattern through traditional ceramic techniques. For the past four years she has lived and worked nomadically from her van-studio, drawing inspiration from landscapes, travel, and the deeply sensual side of nature's phenomena. Her works combine hand-painted abstraction, color, and atmosphere, evoking emotional states and symbolic narratives through minimal form.
